Lessons Learned: Event Security Planning
Ahhhh, back home to Philadelphia! After almost an entire month on the road, I am so glad to be home and grounded, at least for a little while. My May travels took me to Miami Beach, Spain, San Diego, and Myrtle Beach and I can’t wait to tell you all about my experiences, but that will have to wait until another day!
While I certainly don’t want to relive the grueling travel schedule of the last month, I do want to go back to talk about the Broad Street Run in early May. One of my character traits (some may call it a flaw!) is to always look for improvement in everything. I firmly believe that even if something seems to be perfect, there is always a way to make it even more perfect so I am always looking for lessons to learn. With the Broad Street Run coming just a few short weeks after the Boston Marathon, I was impressed with how quickly Philadelphia and race officials proactively announced new security measures in response to what had happened in Boston. Even though there was no apparent threat to the Broad Street Run, everyone involved took the opportunity to learn something from Boston and improve security plans, even though by all accounts, the security plans already in place were appropriate for the event. Kudos to the city of Philadelphia and everyone involved with the Run.
Your turn: share your story about learning something from another event that you then applied to one of your own!
