The calendar says it is spring, but today sure doesn’t feel like spring. After the winter we’ve had, most of us are beyond ready for spring to REALLY be here. We’re getting into the spring spirit by thinking about all of the wonderful events coming up in the Philadelphia area over the next 2 months.
United Way Women’s Initiative Gala
In just 2 days, more than 800 people will come together at the Crystal Tea Room in Philadelphia to celebrate and recognize women in leadership, philanthropy and volunteerism at the annual United Way Women’s Initiative Gala. Of particular importance to us is the recognition of the achievements of the young women in the Girls Today, Leaders Tomorrow program. This program focuses on “helping 6th and 7th grade girls build self-esteem, honor their bodies and maintain healthy relationships with their peers. The Girls Today, Leaders Tomorrow program supports attitudes and behaviors related to the “six pillars of character”– trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship.”
One of the most powerful days we experience every year is this Gala, where we can see the difference the United Way is making in the lives of these young girls. The United Way asks the question “what happens when you invest in women and girls?” and they answer it with “you lift entire communities.” We couldn’t agree more, and that is why we continue to be so proud to be involved with this program and the Gala.
Montgomery County Heroes Breakfast
The Montgomery County American Red Cross will be hosting the 1st Annual Montgomery County Heroes Breakfast on April 10 to honor individuals “who truly exhibit the spirit of humanitarianism by showing courage, kindness and unselfish character through their acts of heroism in our community.”
“The American Red Cross exists to provide compassionate care to those in need.” We see the impact that the Red Cross has in our community each day, and the support it provides goes far beyond the disaster relief that most people associate with the Red Cross. This is the go-to organization for our local friends and neighbors in need and we are proud to further the mission.

The Celebration of Black Writing is one of the oldest African-American literary events in the nation, and it marks it’s 30th anniversary this year. The mission of Art Sanctuary is to use the power of black art to transform individuals, create and build community, and foster cultural understanding, and it began producing the festival in 2001. It has grown from a one-day gathering to a month-long festival in May, comprised of key events engaging more than 7,000 participants. Culminating the festival is the Lifetime Achievement Award Ceremony which honors authors and institutions who have been major contributors to the proliferation of black literature and literacy. Perfection Events will be doing program management work for the month-long festival, as well as producing the Lifetime Achievement Awards.
You’ll see a common theme in all of the organizations with which we choose to work – all focus on building and supporting communities. Strong communities have far-reaching positive impact and influence. We are proud of the work we do to advance the mission of these organizations and have a meaningful impact in our greater Philadelphia community.
What do you do to impact your local community?
