Art Sanctuary Celebration of Black Writing Festival and Awards Show

Philadelphia, PA
May 2014

The Celebration of Black Writing Festival is one of the nation’s longest running literary events of its kind, and Perfection Events was engaged for this momentous 30th Year Anniversary to provide project management services for the entire month-long festival (15+ events ranging in audiences from 20 – 20,000), as well as produce the culminating Lifetime Achievement Awards Show featuring chart-topping R&B artist, Ledisi. We partnered with our client, Art Sanctuary, to liaise with varied stakeholders (members, authors, artists, boards, committees, and the public) to design and execute festival programming that appropriately represented their commitment to making excellence in the arts accessible to our community.

Know, Feel, Do

Attendees across festival events were to KNOW/UNDERSTAND: the role of Art Sanctuary in the community as a haven for black art and an organization where everyone’s perspectives are respected and presented to a very diverse audience and that serves as a gateway and liaison for multiple communities, bringing art to people rather than waiting for the people to come to the art, FEEL: included, empowered, ownership, valued, educated, and connected to a larger community, and DO: Share and connect with networks and people they care about, and embrace social responsibility to further the organization’s mission of using the power of black art to transform individuals, create and build community, and foster cultural understanding.

Results

All set objectives were attained and exceeded including surpassing profitability goals by more than 20%, significantly increasing and strengthening the caliber of the organization’s volunteer base, and broadening the festival’s core audience and reach by more than 3,000 participants.
